My 1st Homemade Cookies ^^

I love eating cookies but never learnt how to make them, partly cus I don't have an oven. I promised myself that I'll start making them once we've moved, & bought an oven.

Well, the oven's been around for almost a month, & sitting pretty & clean up till today, hehe...

Being the type of person who needs to mentally prepare myself first b4 embarking on a new project, big or small... I've been telling myself to get started one of these days.

First of all, I went to the library to borrow some books on baking, for tips...& the enticing pictures to serve as visual motivation. Then, I went about to get the tools... (got most of them from the $2 Daiso outlet at Plaza Singapura), some from nearby Giant Supermarket & finally the electric mixer from Courts. Actually, I still lacked the kitchen scale...that's why I was reluctant to get started initially. *PS: All these took place over a span of 2 weeks ^^

Finally, this afternoon presents itself with the perfect time for me to get started. I was really unsure & kept checking with the instruction on the (premix, yes...hehe) packet. Baking comes as 2nd nature to many women, but it's like a brand new introduction to me again, after my previous 1st attempt at baking, during Home Economics lesson back in Secondary 1, or was it 2?

I wasnt quite sure what it meant to "cream the butter", nor the meaning of "using half an egg" ??? I stumbled around, pretty clumsily with my wooden spoon & metal bowl, & finally decided that I might as well take out my electric mixer for this purpose.

Next, I had to pour the flour mix into the bowl. Now what am I supposed to do with it? Mix, with spoon, or hand? I decided, the word "knead" probably meant using my hands... & so I get right to it immediately. Mixing them in, & then using the wooden "roller"(?) ...then it was the most fun part, using cookie cutters!

I was so unsure what tool to use, & how to use them, when to use them... it was quite embarassing & pretty hilarious to any on-looker (my maid), we burst out laughing several times.

But, once they were in pretty shapes of 'hearts', 'stars' etc... my confidence began to rose, believing that my 1st attempt will go smoothly after all :D

My kids love them, my mom & maid said it tasted good too... & I agree with them! I've saved 5 pieces for my husband, hopefully he'll like them too, hehe...

With my confidence & experience slightly increased now, I think I'll make another attempt tomorrow (or when the nx opportune time presents itself). This time, it'll not be using premix flour though ;P
